Baboo is more thana place to dine.
Our Story
Baboo Beach Cafe began in 2014 with a simple but meaningful vision. It was founded by the late Nooran Amin Baboo, who dreamed of creating a place where the authentic flavours of Zanzibar could be shared with people from around the world. The name Baboo Beach Cafe comes directly from him, proudly carrying his name and preserving the legacy he created.
Today, that vision lives on through his wife, Madam Mariam Mohamed, who continues Baboo Beach Cafe with the same passion for Zanzibari culture, traditional flavours and warm island hospitality. While honouring her late husband’s original dream, she continues to guide Baboo into a new chapter, keeping its heritage at the heart of everything we do.
Set beneath the old trees of Shangani Street, where the historic streets of Stone Town meet the Indian Ocean, Baboo offers an atmosphere shaped by the beauty, culture and timeless character of Zanzibar.
Our kitchen celebrates the food we grew up with: fresh seafood, coconut-rich dishes, aromatic island spices, tropical juices and traditional spiced coffee, all prepared with care and respect for our roots.
Baboo is more than a place to dine. It is a place to slow down, share conversations, discover local flavours and experience the warmth of Zanzibar.
From Nooran Amin Baboo’s vision in 2014 to Madam Mariam Mohamed’s dedication today, Baboo Beach Cafe remains a celebration of family, heritage and tradition, sharing the true taste and spirit of Zanzibar with the world.
